Statue of Liberty (New York)

The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the French to the American people. In 1886, the Statue of Liberty was built by the French sculptor Frédéric August Bartholdi and Gustav Eiffel as a symbol of the political ideals of the USA.

The statue itself, standing 46 meters high, is nearly as high as the base on which it stands. It weighs 225 tons. It took a very long time to raise funds for its construction. After the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the crown of the statue is no longer open to visitors.
