Portage Lake (Alaska)

Portage Lake with its Portage Glacier is on the Kenai Peninsula within the Chugach National Forest. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of Alaska.

The glacier is retreating, leaving pieces of it floating in lake which form little icebergs. You can reach the glacier by boat. If the weather is good, the view will be marvelous. Every day the glacier retreats another 30 cm. Therefore you can no longer see the glacier from the visitor center.
