The fortification at the 173-meter high mountain has strongly influenced the history of Barcelona. The city was defended from here. In times of social unrest, parts of Barcelona were bombarded from here as well. Visitors can reach the summit by cable car, where a far reaching panorama view is offered. During the Franco dictatorship, the fortification was a feared prison. Today the entire mountain is used as a local recreation area. |
