Panoramas of the World

West Coast (New Zealand)

Along the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand,Highway 6 is located. In many places a fantastic view of the Tasman Sea is offered - like this one north of Punakaiki.

This coastal road may easily be compared to the famous Highway No. 1 in California. Wild beaches and bizarre stone formations are part of the picture of the rough coast. In close vicinity to Punakaiki, the Pancake Rocks and Blowholes are located. They got their name because they look like a pile of pancakes. The Blowholes give an impressive view - when the waves of the sea enter the rock holes, water is pushed upward into the sky.
