Doge`s Palace (Venice)

The Doge`s Palace was the center of power and splendour in the city republic of Venice. Over a period of 1000 years, the sea-republic was governed by about 120 Doges in a row.

The Doge`s Palace was the place for politics and legislation, for meetings and elections of the representatives of the people, and the highest symbol of Venetian civilization. The inner courtyard, in which this panorama picture was taken, is controlled by a two-story triumph gate and the Scala dei Giganti, which is guarded by two statues of Neptun and Mars created by Jacopo Sansovino.
