Panoramas of the World

Piazza del Campidoglio (Rome)

Michelangelo designed this place on the Capitoline Hill. Pope Paul III had ordered the development of the Piazza del Campidoglio for a planned visit by the emperor Karl V.

The fronts of the two buildings on the left and on the right side are nearly identical and were also designed by Michelangelo. The Palazzo Nuovo and the Palazzo dei Conservatori today house parts of the capitolini museums.
