Tower Bridge

The Tower Bridge became a real point of attraction for visitors to London. It is 244 meters long, the height of the two bridge towers amounts to 65 meters. It connects the two banks of the Thames. The bridge was built in a neo-gothic style at the end of the 19th century.

The hydraulic system of the bridge was revolutionary at the time. Through its use, the approximately 40 meter high bridge sections could be pulled up whenever larger ships where traveling down the river. However, it was replaced in the seventies by a modern electrical system, which is able to pull up the bridge in only 90 seconds.
The Tower of London bordering the north bank is a large fortification with solid outside walls and fortress towers. The history of the Tower contains murder and pain. Many people were kept imprisoned or were even executed in the Tower.
