Cologne Cathedral (outdoor)

It is the landmark of the city and at the same time the best-known religious building in Germany. The towers of the Cologne Cathedral are more than 157 meters high. The cathedral is visited by several million visitors annually. The construction period from the foundation to its completion lasted close to 632 years.

The Cologne Cathedral is considered to be a masterpiece in the gothic style. It was accepted as a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1996. The external length of the cathedral amounts to over 144 meters. In the central aisle, the interior reaches a height of 43 meters. By the way, the free-running bell with the designation “Dicker Pitter” is the largest of its kind with a weight of 24 tons. Bombs heavily damaged the cathedral in 1943. It was restored later. There was a church located at the same place as early as the 4th century.
