The summer residence for Princess Sophie Charlotte was built between 1695 and 1699. However, the building at that time did yet look like the castle of today. It consisted of one center pavilion and two four-axis wings. In the following decades, it was changed to its look of today. The west wing is of newer origin. There, the rooms once occupied by Friedrich der Große, his successors, as well as Queen Louise are located. Today it hosts a collection of paintings from the 18th century. The Schinkel Pavilion was built in 1825. Starting in 1697, Siméon Gideau designed the extensive Schlosspark. |
