The Louvre, with its glass pyramid entrance, is the best-known national museum of art in France. Beside numerous other treasures, it is also home to the famous Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. French kings resided in this palace located on the right bank of the Seine until 1682. Later on the building was expanded. Napoleon already stored his looted art treasures in the Louvre. Since 1981 the museum has been considerably expanded again. In the course of this remodeling, the pyramid of glass and steel was created by the American architect Ieoh Ming Pei. |
