The Helsinki Cathedral (. Helsingin tuomiokirkko) is an Evangelical Lutheran cathedral in the center of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. It was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel and is located right next to the Senate Square. The cathedral is the best known landmark in the city, with more than 300,000 visitors. The building was completed in 1852. The Helsinki Cathedral was originally named after the Grand DukeNicholas I, the Tsar of Russia. The name was changed after the independence of Finland in 1917.
