The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral crowns the hill of Toompea in Tallinn. It was built at the end of the 19th century. It is dedicated to Saint Alexander Nevsky, who won the Battle of the Ice on Lake Peipus in 1242. The orthodox Alexander Nevski Cathedral is situated right next to the parliament. With this building, the Russian Tsar wanted to show his power. For this reason, the cathedral is disliked by many Estonians as a reminder of Russian domination.
