The parliament building of Victoria is located in the midst of a well-maintained park near the south side of the harbour. The parliament was built by Francis M. Rattenburry. Figures of outstanding historical personalities from British Columbia are shown on the front of the Parliament. The building was finished in time for the diamond throne anniversary of Queen Victoria in 1897. The statue on the dome of the parliament represents Captain George Vancouver, who first circumnavigated the island which was subsequently named after him. |
