The fishing village Apollo Bay attracts numerous visitors in the summer months, particularly because of its popular sand beaches. Situated 186 kilometers southwest from Melbourne, it is located right next to the famous Great Ocean Road. In 1932, the inhabitants of Apollo Bay witnessed one of the largest maritime disasters on the Australian coast. Right before the eyes of the inhabitants, the steamship "Casino" sank and ten sailors drowned. Today, the anchor of the ship is shown in front of the post office of the village. |
